In this brief summary of our beaches, we provide key details about each one, including the distance from El Pilpayo, type of beach, and available services. The beaches are listed by direction (East or West from our accommodation) and ordered by distance.
The maximum distance considered is 50 km, with a travel time of about 45 minutes. Heading West, the summary covers beaches up to Ribadesella, and heading East, it includes beaches up to Playón de Bayas. If you're up for a longer trip, the Llanes area has several beautiful beaches, and the coast up to Ribadeo is stunning, with many uncrowded beaches and coves. HEADING WEST
- Playa de España: 3 km from El Pilpayo. The closest beach, small and beautiful, with significant tidal variation. A good sandy area at low tide and little sand at high tide. Possible to walk there. Good for surfing. Chiringuito and paid parking available.
- Cala de Merón: 15 km, about 20 minutes away. A small, uncrowded beach with no services. The path to the beach goes through the rural area from Arguero.
- Playa de Rodiles: 25 km, about 20 minutes via a convenient highway to Villaviciosa. A 1 km long beach with good sand and all services, next to the Villaviciosa Estuary. Free parking, but arrive early in peak season. Great for surfing.
- Playa de Lastres (L`Estilleru): 35 km, about 25 minutes away. A 300m cove surrounded by cliffs, well worth a visit, just like the town of Lastres.
- Playa de La Griega: About 38 km, 30 minutes by car in the town of Colunga. A good 820m sandy beach with all services. Known for dinosaur footprints.
- Playa de La Espasa: About 40 km and very close to La Griega. A beautiful beach with a good 1200m sandy area, free parking, and all services. Great for surfing. Ask us where to park. Chiringuito: http://playamadre.com
- Playa de Vega: About 48 km, 40 minutes away. A beautiful and spacious beach with a length of 1440m and good sand. All services available.
- Playa de Santa Marina: Ribadesella, 54 km, and about 40 minutes away. An urban and crowded beach, 1500m long, with all services.
HEADING EAST
- Playa de La Ñora: Only 6 km, about 12 minutes away. A small and beautiful beach with good sand and all services. Free parking. If you don't want to travel far, this is your beach.
- Playa de Estaño: 6 km, 10 minutes away. A small and beautiful 300m cove. Sand and gravel. All services and a good restaurant, El Indio Terraza Club.
- Playa de San Lorenzo: An urban beach in the city of Gijón, 13 km, and about 15 minutes away.
- Playa de Xivares: 25 km and about 23 minutes away. An 800m sandy beach with significant tidal variation.
- Playa de Luanco (Santa Marina): 32 km, 25 minutes away. A small 300m sandy beach in the town of Luanco. Luanco is worth a visit, with dining in the port and a swim at the beach. Crowded in August.
- Playa de Bañugues: 35 km, about 30 minutes away. A 300m long beach with little wave action. All services and a good beachfront restaurant: http://micandelita.com
- Playa de Verdicio: 40 km, 35 minutes away. A beautiful 330m beach with all services. Free and paid parking available.
- Playa de Xagó: 40 km, 35 minutes away. A fairly wild beach with good waves for summer surfing. At 1500m long, you'll always find a quiet spot, as people tend to gather at both ends. All services available.
- Playa de Salinas / San Juan: A semi-urban beach, popular for surfing. At 2000m long, it has all services. Crowded.
- Playón de Bayas: 50 km and about 45 minutes away. A beautiful dark sand beach.
